Overview of the functions of the post 


Description of Responsibilities:


Under the overall authority of the Office Director and direct supervision of the Science Programme Specialist, the incumbent provides technical assistance, coordination and management of the CYDF Mercedes-Benz Star Fund Funds-in-Trust (MB FIT) project on Accelerating Carbon Neutrality: Innovative Actions For Sustainable Development:


1.Contribute to the overall planning and implementation of the MB FIT project, prepare work plan and budgets, monitoring the expenses, manage the evaluation and reporting on all activities undertaken according to the required formats, and provide relevant information to existing and prospective contributors.


2.Act as the Focal Point in liaising with the line ministries, project sites, academic partners, experts, IGO and NGO, UNESCO/HQs, National Commissions, the donors, service providers and other stakeholders of the MB FIT Project to ensure smooth implementation of project activities.


3.Organize project related events including training workshops, international themed conferences, project launching meeting, technical meetings and any other events related with the project?


4.Contribute to promoting the project by developing contents, including video, photo and written materials and facilitate information dissemination through the website and WeChat account of UNESCO, publications and ad hoc awareness raising events as appropriate; 


5.Undertake regular missions to oversee the onsite implementation of the project activities, and attend relevant meetings;


6.Assist with other tasks as assigned by the Project Leader and the Director of the Office.


Required qualifications


EDUCATION 


·Advanced University degree (Master's or equivalent) closely related to environmental science, engineering and environmental economics and environmental law.


WORK EXPERIENCE


·A minimum of 5 years of practical experience in climate change and environmental areas, including two years of coordination experience on multi-partners project implementation and/or management in an international environment. 


·Demonstrated experience in developing communication strategies, tools and contents in relevant contexts.


SKILLS/COMPETENCIES


·Strong knowledge of the environmental areas and domestic cooperation scenarios in China.


·Demonstrable experience in project design, development and management in an international environment.


·Strong time-management under tight deadlines, monitoring and reporting skills.


·Advanced IT skills in word processing, spreadsheets, visual presentation tools, video conference platforms, etc.


·Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with and in multicultural teams.


·Integrity, negotiation skills.


·Capacity to encourage inputs and positions from diverse stakeholders, as well as to deliver effective synthesis.


LANGUAGES


·Excellent knowledge of English and Mandarin (oral and written).


Desirable qualifications


WORK EXPERIENCE


·Experience on implementation of projects in UNESCO settings.


·Professional experience in a research organization, university or within the United Nations System.


SKILLS/COMPETENCIES


Good knowledge of UNESCO’s mandate, programme (with special focus on natural sciences) and operational processes.

Benefits include: 2.5 days of leave per month, up to 15% of the basic salary for medical insurance and pension plan.
