Background
UNESCO’s mission is to contribute to the building of peace, the eradication of poverty, sustainable development and intercultural dialogue through education, the sciences, culture, communication and information. The UNESCO Office in Beijing was established in 1984, and it is now representing UNESCO in the North-East Asian countries in all five programmes (Education, Natural Sciences, Social and Human Sciences, Culture, Communication and Information).
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the authority and direct supervision of the Director of UNESCO Beijing Office, the incumbent shall provide intersectoral coordination assistance, and carry out the following duties and responsibilities:
1.Draft concept notes, proposals and project documents for intersectoral initiatives such as the Nanjing Peace Forum, under the direct supervision of the Director and in close collaboration with programme units;
2.Assist in coordinating and consolidating inputs by liaising with five programme units within UNESCO Beijing Office and UN country teams in the five cluster countries;
3.Consolidate inputs received internally and externally to prepare solid briefing, talking points, speeches, presentations, and inputs to office publications;
4.Coordinate interview requests and assist with raising visibility of UNESCO Beijing Office through website updates, social media and press releases etc.;
5.Provide support to Director’s Office;
6.Undertake any other assignments requested by the Director.
Requirements
1.Two years working experience with advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in education, culture, natural sciences, social sciences or other related fields. A first-level university degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree;
2.Previous experience in writing proposals and basic understanding of the administration of UNESCO is considered as a plus;
3.Required qualities include accuracy, tact, courtesy, flexibility, willingness to take initiative, team spirit and strong communication skills;
4.Competency in English and Chinese (oral and written);
5.Excellent computer skills e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
